I got lazy and didn't contact anyone to see if they wanted to do an interview with me.
But that's okay. I finished up my next set up revisions for my editor, and as soon as I buy more paper and ink, I'll print it up and mail it off.
I'm excited. I think (hope) it's gone the direction she wanted it to. I cut an entire character's POV out. The scene in question, where I pondered if I should make it a camera lens POV, I cut as well. I did try it. But after I took out the person introspection, the thoughts, the feelings, the scene didn't feel alive anymore. It felt, well, like a screenplay. Empty.
So I cut it. There was some great action in that scene. Two boys sneaking into a police station, using their identical twin status to fool the clerk, stealing a car, almost getting caught at the toll booth...you get the picture. But it lost its soul when I took out the boy's POV. Someday, when they make a movie of my book (ha ha), we can put the scene back in.
But guess what that means? It means I get to work on the sequel again. Which, as Perilous changes, so does book #2.
Tonight at church we're having a chili cook off. My husband and I went to one of these when we were engaged. It was super fun. I love my husband. He's such a great guy. Even though he laughed at my dead princess tiara.

I love the title of your book! It sounds like revisions are going well, good for you.
Have fun at the chili cook off. Yummy.
I've been to a few chili cook offs in Texas! Some of those are really hottttt!!!
Sounds like you're making progress. Excellent. I am having chili for dinner, too. Homemade and it already smells yummy coming from the crock pot!
Hey Tamara, thanks so much for commenting on my blog. I added you to my blog roll, figuring it would be fun to keep track of each other.
I've been working on my first revisions. My problem is I tend to not write enough, so they tell you to cut, cut, cut and to me they say, "more, more, more!" lol
It's wild. So, who's your editor? I have Kristine Princevalle. Do you know her? So far I like her a lot! Good luck with your writing!
Edits are fun (if I keep saying it maybe one day I'll believe it). I kn ow I've come a long way when I'm willing to just chop away scenes and chapters, like you did. That was so hard for me to do in the beginning. Congrats. It's always nice to have made it through another edit. :)
"I got lazy." Sheesh. Tamara, how can you lie??? The day you get lazy is the day I grow a beard! Err... well... at least I hope that comparison is equal.
@Tamika--thank you! My first editor and I deliberated over a title for months!!! I'm so happy to have one now.
@LMJ--there was one Mexican chili there that was HOT! It had wedges of jalapenos and pieces of pig skin. (Ew?) Other than the pig skin it was really tasty.
@Cindy--I made chili for the cookoff but didn't get to eat any of it. Maybe I'll have to make some more. then again...no. I think we'll go to Long John Silvers for dinner.
@Melissa--Hey! so exciting to meet you! There's a community of us on here. David West, M. Gray, LA DeVaul, Karen Gowen. You'll have a blast with us! My second editor is Kristine also. Which reminds me that I need to buy paper and ink...
Oh, and though I've been cutting a ton, I've also been adding a ton (per request). I turned in my ms at 76K, after I'd chopped it down from 97K. Promptly they had me add more scenes at it jumped to 106K. Currently, with the scene I just cut, it's at 103K.
@Kasie--yes, you can tell when you've been at it awhile, b/c you become a bit jaded to cutting scenes. It's like, "Just go already. Okay. gone. Good riddance."
@M. Gray--are you back??? what news?
Glad to see your editor is keeping you busy? No time to participate in NaNoWriMo lol?
Oops, I meant to say "keeping you busy!" not a question, it makes no sense as a question
Congrats on your edits! Sorry you had to cut out a good scene, but glad the edits are going well. I will be excited to read it when it comes out. An author signed one of course. And of course I'd go see the movie. :)
You cut that scene, Tamara!??! I loved it!!
Glad to hear that you're doing well! I stalked your last few blog posts. hehe.
Always,
Em
Hi Em! Thanks for stalking!
Alas, I also loved that scene. It was hard to cut. But worse was leaving it in w/ no soul. that's what happens, unfortunately!
