I've been tired a lot lately. So I haven't done much. Except watch movies.
My husband and I try hard to be frugal. (Though you wouldn't know it today, if you saw how much I spent on my 4-year-old's b-day party and gifts.) So we rent movies from the store down the road, Take 2, which lets you rent 2 for the price of 1. We don't rent new releases, those are $4 each! We get the oldies. $2 each. So for $2 a week, we get 4 movies. That's only $8 a month.
Except I'll be honest. We watch lots of movies. If we could, we'd watch one every night (except maybe Sunday). But that means we'd spend almost $16 a month on movies.
Still not too bad. And then I discovered Netflix. Of course, I've heard of Netflix. My parents signed up ten years ago. But the last time I checked (like a year ago), their cheapest program of 1 movie out at a time was $15.
Not anymore. It's now $9 a month. PLUS you get to watch an unlimited amount of movies on your computer (or if you're lucky, your TV via your X-Box or something like that). PLUS you get the first month free.
We joined. Last night we watched our second movie on my computer. Actually we watched two, because the first one was really crummy and we didn't want to finish it. No problem! Ha! Didn't cost us anything! Just close the window and find another one!
I'm in love.
Please tell me we're not the only ones who watch tons of movies...and tell me which ones I should be putting in my queue!

I feel the same way! I held out for a long time because I wanted to support our local video store. Then I thought about it and realized I didn't rent that often to really support them. So, I went for it and I'm in love, too!
What did we ever do without it? Enjoy your movie time...:)
I will! What movies are you watching??? I've been having fun filling my queue...
Nope! You're not the only ones!!! I can't go to the movie theater anymore, so I watch movies ALL the time!!! ALL HAIL NETFLIX!!!
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is HI-LAR-I-OUS!
if you haven't seen Oscar (it isn't new), check it out. also very funny.
Oh, LMJ, movies were the only things that got me through the sleepless nights with both my kids! Nursing for two hours every night didn't look so bad when I knew I had a fun movie to get to! Whoo-hoo!
Thanks Elisa! I'll definitely have to look for those movies!
I go in waves. But you know my obsession with Prison Break. But today I #amwriting. But i'm already on season four. It's probably in the mailbox... oh the temptation!!
Omg, no! Of course you're not the only one! I LOVE movies!!! I like to turn one on while doing something else, even though I usually get distracted. If you haven't seen (500) Days of Summer, go for it. That was the first movie I got through Netflix, and I loved it!
I loved (500) Days of Summer! Oh, and I'm hooked on the show Weeds. New in Town was really sweet. I liked The Passengers, Confessions of a Shopaholic, and The Education of Charlie Banks. There's more, but I can't think of them at the moment.
Have fun!
j.b. and i are movie-a-holics...seriously. we might have to join a program. we could watch a movie a night...though we do not agree always on selection: he's into critically acclaimed, I'm into 'who's in it' and chicky flix *of course! Lately our best find was Inglorious Basterds. For sure!!!! but another from a few years back that is a kind of underground great: The Orphanage. or Brick. Let me know what you think!
ps. 500 days I liked -- my hubby hated...to go nowhere for him...
I was so busy in college I never had time to watch movies... even though I was a film major. Sad. So now I try to make up... I could watch a movie every night too! We were doing redbox and dvdplay, but the movie choices have really gotten limited to: we watch all the worthwhile movies in one week and have to wait several months before another decent one comes out. I want to do netflix... but then I am afraid I will be watching too many movies all the time! Of course, the deal you explained sounds really good. You can watch a movie ANY time on the computer? how does that work?
All right, I'm compiling a list!
Prison Break
500 days of Summer
Weeds
New in Town
The Education of Charlie Banks
Inglorious Basterds
The Orphanage
Brick
Em, they just have a whole selection of movies that you can play from your computer. It's easy and fun! Give it a try.
ps. too go nowhere....wow. sorry my bad!
Ooo, ooo! I wanna see 500 Days of Summer!
I'd like to watch more movies. I have NetFlix and it's great. They are so fast getting the movies back where I am. I keep nearly 500 in my queue -- I'm always filling it up and having to take some off. I also really like classics, but I try to keep up with new ones too. We watch @ 2 movies a week during the school year. In summer or on vacations maybe more. My daughters got me a Roku box for streaming video. I've only used it twice so far but it works great on my 50 inch TV.
I guess if I didn't mess with these blogs so much I could watch a couple of extra movies on my own each week-- there's a lot that I like that my wife doesn't like.
What kinds of movies do you like to watch?
Lee
Lee--it sure would be nice to watch on my TV instead of my 7" laptop! Then again, our TV broke, and we borrowed my parents' old 10"...
we LOVE movies!! I watched os many when I was sick; and with Justin coming home so late these days all he wants to do is sit and watch a movie.
I agree with Elisa: Oscar is hilarious! I'll have to think about what movies to add to your list.
We are really into old movies and are always looking for good recommendations. Do you have any? Here is a few I recommend:
And Then There Were None
Private Eyes
Dial M for Murder
Walk Don't Run
Strangers on a Train
The Court Jester
Columbo
NETFLIX!! We don't shell out for cable because we love movies and obscure, cancelled TV shows. I'm a HUGE indie film lover. Here are a few favorites from the past year:
Keeping Mum
Goodbye Lenin
The Station Agent
Lars and the Real Girl
Charlie Bartlett
Itallian for Beginners
Pope Dreams
Blue (aka Trois Coleurs: Bleu)
Stranger than Fiction
Have fun, Tamara!
Yeah, I need to look into this. I'm so addicted to reality TV already, though, so it might not be a good idea... :)
I used to be big on watching lots of movies, until I met my fiancee. Since she has 4 of her own children and I have 1 of my own, we have 5 together that we have to take care of and that leaves us almost no time to watch a movie. Only real time to do that would be after they go to bed, but by that time, it's too late and the 2 year old still doesn't go to bed until way later... (she's anti-authority and won't sleep on our conditions lol)
ANYWAY, all that to say, I haven't been able to watch movies like I used too... :( so sad, but if I did, I'd definitely be using Netflix.
Dianna and Laurel! Thanks so much! Yikes, my queue list is enormous now! I'm so excited...if I weren't so tired I'd get started right now!
Go for it, Elana! Check it out!
that's very sad, Voidwalker! I hope you get time for movies again soon!
They have lots of BBC Jane Austen Movies..I LOVE THOSE!!! Many are available instantly..though not all..worth the wait though for sure!
I have netflix too, and I love it. When you've had it for a while, it gets really good at predicting what you will like and what you won't, which is a very convenient feature.
If you liked movies like Remember the Titans (which I thought was great), then I recommend Forever Strong. It's on instant watch, and I thought it was incredible.
For your four year old, I might suggest Penelope. Also available on instant watch, and lots of fun.
