The awesome awesome agent that I thought would be mine rejected me.
It's one thing to be rejected from a query. Yet another from a partial. But from a full?
In my head, I know writing is a subjective business and what one person likes another won't. But in my heart, I feel like they should've loved this book. I really wanted that agent. He also reps non-fiction, and it would be so nice to not have to get two different agents for each different project.
There is a problem with developing confidence. When you get rejected, it blows.
But we continue, right? Because until everyone's rejected us, there's still hope...

I know exactly how you feel. I have had the identical thing happen to me, and it hurts. Hang in there.
It hurts, but it makes you stronger if you let it.
The agent you really want is the agent who wants to represent you. For whatever reasons, when an agent decides to pass, the best thing to do is shake it off quickly and keep moving forward.
After reading your novel, PERILOUS, I have no doubt you have what it takes to have a long successful career as an author.
Tamara, you have two wonderful things going for you, youth and tremendous talent, the perfect recipe to accomplish many great things in your life.
From my experience, plenty of failures along the way, I can assure you that one great success wipes out all previously perceived failures.
I'm sorry, Tamara, that really stings. I'm sure you'll find a good agent for the book, though... just hang in there and work off that rejection with some amazing comfort food and then some crazy gym workouts!
So sorry girl. Im with Jack though--the agent you want is the agent who is psyched about your book. I fell in love with one particular agent who requested two different fulls from me. But when I met her at a writing conference I could see we didn't mesh at all, then she rejected me. Just tell yourself you and this agent wouldn't mesh either and the one who *gets* your TALENTED writing will snatch you up. I have have no doubt it will happen for you.
Awww... That hurts doesn't it. But if they didn't fall in love with your book, then they're not the right agent for you. Just keep sending it out. Someone will fall in love with it.
As Mary said, look ahead. Rejection is always crushing, but... There is more than one fish...agent...in the sea! And you definitely want one that loves your work.

Stay strong soul sister.
Just keep swimming, or in this case, writing, and sending it out. The right match WILL happen.
Totally feel your pain. I got two ultra-exciting full requests at the beginning of the query process... followed by two full rejections within a few weeks. No one else seems to even want to read a partial (though I think that's my query's fault--I'm fixing it).
Still, what the others said is true: we don't just want any old awesome agents. We want awesome agents who LOVE our books!
You guys are all so right.
You know what's really really funny/ironic? The agent who rejected me said that "the premise was interesting" but the "writing wasn't strong enough." Today I got a response from another agent who said "the premise might be a problem" but it's "strong writing." She requested to see any other books I've written. So! It's all so subjective!
Bummer :( That is a shame but your agent is still out there. And when you find him/her, you'll be on cloud nine!
