I'll admit to feeling a bit apprehensive everyone time someone I know buys my book.
What if they don't like it? What if they think it's stupid? What if they think I'm a terrible writer?
Will it make them not like me? Will they think I'm stupid? That I'm a terrible friend?
I think people generally feel uneasy when they realize they don't like something that a friend of theirs wrote/did. They don't want that person to ask what they thought of it because the honest answer wouldn't be too happy. So they avoid that person.
Let's put all those worried, unhappy feelings aside. Because the truth is, you don't have to like my book to be my friend. (And I don't have to like your shoes, or your dog, or your couch.)
Let's make new friends instead!
Friday is National Make a Friend Day. So I propose a sort of Blogfest. Let's find new people to be friends with. If you want people to come look at your blog, and maybe follow you (befriend you), add yourself to Mr. Linky here.
On Friday (Feb. 11), post something about yourself, something to attract potential friends.
That's not all! Whoever finds the most new friends will win a copy of this book (except the paperback edition, not the Kindle edition):
Then all you have to do is comment back and tell me how many new friends you made. This can be people who followed your blog and people whose blogs you followed, but it has to happen on Friday, February 11th!
But wait, there's more! Indie Debut 2011 is also holding their blog launch on Friday! So, if you go to Indie Debut 2011 and follow them on Friday, you'll get two extra friend points! Not to mention that they will have lots of fun activities and giveaways going on as part of their blog launch! And it's all part of my scheme to support the underdog!
So go ahead! sign your blog up on Mr. Linky to find new friends! What are you waiting for? We can all use more friends!
Want even more friends?? Post about this on your blog! Let's triple our friend count on Friday!

I liked your book.
This is a fun idea. I have two pretty good "friends" that live in my computer. They are actual friends of friends, so there's only one degree of separation, and it's been fun to get to know them better over the past few years. My blog is private, so Mr. Linky doesn't work for me. But I think National Make a Friend Day is so....friendly.
What a great idea. You can never have too many friends!
Amen, Kate!
Yay, Meg! Glad you liked my book. I hadn't noticed you avoiding me. :)
Tamara this is a fabulous point along with a fabulous idea. I think it's important to have hang on to friends that like you, regardless whether they like your book or not.
That being said, I loved your book :)
Glad you did, Jen! (And I like your shoes.)
I'm very shy, but I love this idea (if I can remember it come Friday!!). Friends Friday, Friends Friday, Friends Friday, Friends Friday . . . Okay, I think I might have clicked it in.
lol, Amy! You'll remember when everyone starts clicking over to your blog.
HA! Your book is on my iPad now, just waiting for my husband to foget it at home...
Also, this is a great idea, and I'm SO reading that book.
you can still be my friend if you don't like it, Jolene!
I know how you're feeling. I get that way every time I see someone from the YA forums has reviewed me.
By the way, I liked your book.
I liked your book! And I like you too. I would like you even if I didn't like your book!!
I signed up before I read further, and I'm reviewing Don Carey's book on Friday! I hope it's still ok to play, even though I'm writing about my opinion instead of specifically something about me.
Of course, Rebecca! you can blog about whatever.
I haven't read your book yet, (i rarely have time to get to a bookstore or the money for more books) but I plan to, and even though I don't truly know you, you've served already as a bit of an inspiration to my aspirations to be an author. I thank you for that. <3 I hope you can keep on with writing, because I'm sure your books (once I get them xD) will inspire me all the more. Thank you, Tamara.
Good idea Tamara.
I love this idea! But my caps lock stuck and so my name looks weird. :(
Hooray for friends!
I have your book, but it's in Seattle! it hasn't made it across the Canadian border yet.
This is a great idea and a great point. It's true for books and in the film industry as well. I have dear friends whose short films I didn't think were that great. But I can still support them and be proud of them for their accomplishment and doing what they love to do. If I don't like it, I can still say congratulations!
What a cool idea, Tamara!
National Make a Friend Day is so cool! My old blog crashed and a new one isn't born yet, so for now I'll just read yours, Tamara.
And, I can't wait to read your book. It's on my "TBR-in-2001" list. :o)
