What if they don't like it? What if they think it's stupid? What if they think I'm a terrible writer?
Will it make them not like me? Will they think I'm stupid? That I'm a terrible friend?
I think people generally feel uneasy when they realize they don't like something that a friend of theirs wrote/did. They don't want that person to ask what they thought of it because the honest answer wouldn't be too happy. So they avoid that person.
Let's put all those worried, unhappy feelings aside. Because the truth is, you don't have to like my book to be my friend. (And I don't have to like your shoes, or your dog, or your couch.)
Let's make new friends instead!
Friday is National Make a Friend Day. So I propose a sort of Blogfest. Let's find new people to be friends with. If you want people to come look at your blog, and maybe follow you (befriend you), add yourself to Mr. Linky here.
On Friday (Feb. 11), post something about yourself, something to attract potential friends.
That's not all! Whoever finds the most new friends will win a copy of this book (except the paperback edition, not the Kindle edition):

I liked your book.
This is a fun idea. I have two pretty good "friends" that live in my computer. They are actual friends of friends, so there's only one degree of separation, and it's been fun to get to know them better over the past few years. My blog is private, so Mr. Linky doesn't work for me. But I think National Make a Friend Day is so....friendly.

Tamara this is a fabulous point along with a fabulous idea. I think it's important to have hang on to friends that like you, regardless whether they like your book or not.

I haven't read your book yet, (i rarely have time to get to a bookstore or the money for more books) but I plan to, and even though I don't truly know you, you've served already as a bit of an inspiration to my aspirations to be an author. I have your book, but it's in Seattle! it hasn't made it across the Canadian border yet.
This is a great idea and a great point. It's true for books and in the film industry as well. I have dear friends whose short films I didn't think were that great. But I can still support them and be proud of them for their accomplishment and doing what they love to do. If I don't like it, I can still say congratulations!
