#$!$# book trailer!!!

I've about had it with my book trailer!

This thing is more trouble than it's worth. Seriously. If I had the money, I would so pay someone $2000 to make this 1 minute blip of awesome, suspenseful intrigue into my novel rather than do this myself. And I'm not even making it! All I'm doing is collecting the images and putting together a 'script' so someone else can make my trailer!

And it is FRUSTRATING. ME. LIKE. CRAZY. I'm ready to call it quits. No book trailer! Not needed!

The problem is that I'm spending way too much time trying to find the perfect image. And I'm not even finding it. And what I'm finding costs $100 to use, and that's just 1 picture! So I'm trying to make due with the free sites, or at least the cheaper ones. Their images are definitely less than perfect.

Oh, why can't I have a movie studio with actors at my disposal?

Tamara, I feel your pain. I long ago gave up on finding the right still images in any affordable fashion.

Yet after spending dollars and dollars on supplies (I'm easily three digits into a zero-digit budget) and hours and hours behind the camera, I have exactly 2.7 seconds of usable footage. Everything else has been "proof-of-concept" and "test" and whatever else you can use to put a positive spin on "messing around and not getting anywhere."

Hmph!

Oh, Don!!!! So so frustrating!

And really how many people buy a book from seeing the trailer? Where did this idea come from anyway? It's such a waste of time and money unless it's your thing. My Farm Girl trailer came together easily since the images were already there, and I had people who put it together. But as for selling copies because of the trailer? Really so very little impact. I've sold more copies from people who like this blog I'm signed into now, my writing from life blog, than ever came from the few people who viewed the trailer. Sorry to sound discouraging, but imho they're a waste. Not to mention the fact that if the trailer isn't very good, it will actually HURT book sales. meh.

No kidding, Karen, that's for sure! But I have picked upbooks b/c of a great trailer (even though the books weren't great)...I want it to be awesome. Stellar! Argh!

The only book trailers I watch are the ones that are like movie trailers. Do I buy a book based on a trailer. Nope. Mainly because most are what you're trying to achieve with yours. Images put together with a script and music. Word of mouth is what causes me to pick up a book. The blurb is causes me to buy it.

Sorry it's so frustrating!
Good luck with your book launch next month, though.

I'm a bit of a DIY guy, myself. But book trailer? I don't know. Looks involved.

I have to wonder how important it is? Unless a video goes viral I mean, does anyone buy a book from a trailer? I don't think so.

Thanks Shallee.

I actually got a great idea last night--I think! and now I'm hopeful, maybe even excited, about my book trialer!

I hope your new idea works - I can't imagine doing this myself. Good luck!
