Now I'm querying authors. And I'm getting 98% rejections.
According to my schedule, I need to have the authors that are going to blurb my book all lined up this month. My ARCS are almost ready. Things are good to GO.
Except nobody wants to blurb my book!
Is there a secret to this?
Of the authors I've heard back from, most have apologetically informed me that my editor/agent must request their editor/agent to allow them to blurb my book. Some have flat out told me no. Most haven't responded.
Next goal: Line up blogs for blog tour. Hopefully this will be easier.
While you're all here, hanging out on my blog, let me announce AUGUST'S COMMENT WINNER! Number 53, Krysten @ after I do! Krysten, you won the book
Not Another Bad Date by Rachel Gibson! Send me an email at tamara at byu dot net with your address and I'll get it off to you!
Oh, and in case anyone's wondering, my bumper stickers arrived. They're beautiful, but only one is on the car straight. The other--well, it's a little crooked. And I guess that's how it will be for life, because I can't get it off.
Lame!

David West had a lot of success because he requested from those he already had relationships with. Could you get blurbs from authors like that, even if they aren't big names? Like Talli Roland? Or Patricia Stoltey? These are both author/bloggers who are published and have good books out.
Ugh that is no fun getting all those rejections =-( I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!!
And yay for winning! I love a good book and I can't wait to read this one. Thank you so much lady!
My sympathies with your frustration.
Without in-house authors doing editors or agents favors, I can only think cultivating a relationship with an established author in your genre might lead to more yeses.
I know this won't help now, but you're writing another book, right?
Ah, sorry lady. How frustrating with the rejections and bumper stickers! Hang in there--you're doing great.
I'd happily do whatever I can to help! My book doesn't come out until next year though - but if there's anything I can do, please let me know! :) Good luck. I know how hard it is.
I don't know anything about getting blurbs - sorry. That would be tough. Good luck with it!
Thanks, everyone! I'm not really upset about the blurbs--mostly the bumper sticker, LOL! I just didn't realize how hard it would be to network with other authors. Some of them I thought I had a pretty good online relationship with, LOL.
Gah! That's no fun. Now I have to add "blurb finding" to my list of neuroses.
Best of luck at coming up with some good ones!
I didn't realize the author had to go after her own blurbs. Learn something new everyday.
I'd be happy to host you on my blog for your blog tour, if you're interested.
I hope you have better luck with the blog tour. Sorry about the rejections.
Some authors are hit up a lot. After talking to a few in the RMW Conference last year, I really understood just how bombarded they are. How was I supposed to know that there are tons of people out there with the gumption enough to actually email these guys?! LOL!
There are review sites that do Blurbs too, but as a reader, the blurbs drive me nuts! I want to read what the book is ABOUT! I need to know someone else's opinion on it!
As a reader, I'm very opinionated! LOL!
Frankie
Frankie, you bring up a good point. I hate it when I flip a book over and all I get are blurbs. I really only want two--one for the front cover and one for the back cover. So, I just have to get about five to agree and hopefully I'll get a good blurb from that! (As you can tell, I haven't gotten five yet.) I totally understand how busy they are. I'm not published or famous (yet) and I already know I wouldn't be able to say yes to most people!
Ha ha, Don! Yes! More things to be neurotic about! :)
Elle, we'll be in touch about the blog tour!
Better luck on your blog tour. I'mm lining one up myself and thinking big thoughts.
Stephen Tremp
Big thoughts are good, Stephen. How do we know we won't reach the stars unless we shoot for them?
My, my, the things authors have to put up with. Let me know if you need me to blurb your book--maybe doing a blurb will help me get published.
That's pretty crazy when you have to start querying authors to get a blurb. Have you tried any politicians? They love to get their names out there.
I'd be happy to host you on your blog tour-- let me know if you're interested.

Arlee, I'd love for you to host me on the blog tour. I'll be in touch!
