I get him up at 6am, and it's just us. I'm usually exhausted, even if I've been awake for awhile teaching a class, and all I can think about is going back to bed. We stumble upstairs and I help him get dressed. Then I comb his hair and make him hot chocolate. We read our scriptures and say a prayer. Then we gather up his gear: jacket, backpack, etc. I grab a blanket for while we wait for the bus.
And I love it.
It's a wonderful, beautiful time of day, and I love having those moments to sit and chat with him. He's a very sweet little boy, though of course still learning how to behave and what's appropriate. It makes me happy to start my day with him.
They grow up, don't they. How very sad. :(

I love this post.
I admire your early routine despite being so tired. I think it sounds wonderful, something that he will look back on fondly as well when he thinks about people who love him.
I'm torn between feeling bad for YOU that you have to get up this early for school and feeling bad for ME that my kids need no prompting to get up at 6am every morning (and we don't need to get up until at least 7 in order to be ready in time for school)
Yes, they grow up fast! My eldest is starting high school this year. She's turning into a young lady already. :) Enjoy these precious moments with your kids while they're little.
I loved this! My children are adopted and I missed these moments with them. They were all older when we adopted them. Children are a wonderful gift and it sounds like you are enjoying that gift!
Oh, yes, they do. My first born is a senior this year. I love the image of you and your son snuggled under a blanket, spending time together while you wait.
awww, love this post :) is he loving kindergarten? what a sweet post!
I don't get to do it often, so I love waking up my girls. I try to do it in the most annoying way possible. Tearing off their bed covers, playing Welcome to the Jungle really loud. Things like that.
