I'm Grateful for a Dirty Kitchen

My kitchen did not get cleaned last night.

Waking up to a mess is one of my biggest pet peeves. I hate the smell and the dirty dishes and not having what I need for breakfast.

But last night I spent close to three hours in the bathroom with my three children while we endured a tornado warning. We read books and watched Netflix on my computer and tried to entertain the baby. I checked on my laundry room, which always floods in bad storms and flooded again. I checked on family and friends to make sure people were okay. And I followed along with the news story of Joplin, and the hundred who died in this sister city not even an hour away.

By the time I put the kids to bed at 12:30am, I didn't care about cleaning my kitchen.

But I am filled with gratitude that I still have one.

Holy smokes! I am glad you are alright. Every time I have heard about tornados and flooding I keep checking those maps to see if they are near you. I guess this one was... yikes.

All it takes is something like this to put it all into perspective. Glad you're ok, I'm so sorry for the devastation in Joplin.

Perspective. That's exactly what it is. When you live out in the boonies, anything closer than an hour is close. So yeah...it hits hard.

How do you DO it without a basement? (I'm the world's biggest wuss when it comes to storms.) You've got the right attitude, though. I'm grateful you're kitchen is (ahem, was -- I'm sure you've rectified it by now) dirty too.

The pictures are UNREAL. I have people ask me about earthquakes all the time (I'm in Alaska, way more quakes than CA) and I laugh because tornados scare the crap out of me. Earthquakes just shake, I can handle shaking. WInd strong enough to tear buildings apart?? Not so much.

Hopefully they're over for you guys.

lol Vicki, yes, the kitchen has been cleaned!

I know what you mean, Jolene. I guess you deal w/ what you're used to...earthquakes scare the crud out of me! there's no where to go! At least in tornadoes you can find a safe place...:)

Apparently we're supposed to get more storms tonight. I'll be cleaning the bathroom before then.

I simply hate hearing about things like this. I know what it's like to go through a tornado warning, so I understand. Glad you guys are safe.
