Apathy and Query Help

Is it such a bad thing?

When you are passionate, you are emotional. You want things to happen a certain way, and you get upset when they don't. You have drive, but there are consequences.

When you are apathetic, you don't care. Things roll off you. You do whatever people want with a shrug. You're easy going. In fact, life is easier.

What do you think? Is it better?

On the other hand, I've written another query and I'd like to get some eyes on it. Any volunteers? Just email me at tamara at byu dot net, and I'll send it over. Thanks in advance!

I think it depends on what you're apathetic about. It's good to have little things roll right off you, but I think there's also a time when you do need to care about things. Family comes to mind for me. I can't imagine being apathetic about family.

Definitely a good point, Nisa. It would not be good to be apathetic about family.

I tend to swing between the extremes depending on how stressed/tired I am. I think you need to find a balance between the two.

I'd love to eyeball your query, but I don't think I have the ability to tell you anything about it. I really haven't gotten to that point yet.

Good luck with it, though.

thanks Nikki and Sarahjayne. Yeah, apathy's probably not good. but it's like not hoping: you can't be disappointed.

I'm not good at queries either. I hate them.

I don't believe that because somebody is passionate about something that they can not be rational. It seems the concern is not Passion vs Apathy but Emotional vs easy going. Many people fain apathy because they care and don't want to be hurt.

I think there needs to be a 3rd choice to your poll because the passion you describe is blinding passion that blocks reason and apathy about things that are important isn't wise. Perhaps one needs to be passionate about some things but also be sensible and patient in seeing goals or objectives to fruition.

good point, Tyler.

i don't think i've ever been apathetic and no nothing has ever rolled off me. damn. i think it'd be nice for a change. but for you and querying isn't that kind of important?

I think the apathy is something you need to be middle of the road on. People should be passionate enough to want to do it well, but not so passionate they feel they must nail it or die. Criticism should be something they can handle, or they're too emotionally involved.

Sometimes I get over-excited and I just want to leap into things too quickly, or I can't focus. Then, I wish for apathy. But when I'm apathetic, I'm bored and wishing for something exciting! So... I don't know which state I prefer!

SB--oh, I'm not apathetic about the querying, LOL! i wish i were!

I'm very emotional about everything. Very involved. somtimes I give so much of my all that it drains me.And then I feel apathy. I kind of like it. But it never stays for long.
