Engaging Twitter

I joined Twitter about a month ago. And honestly, I was so lost. For awhile I hung out, followed people I already knew, waited for someone to follow me. Nothing was happening. I started tweeting. Nobody was reading them except me. So I abandoned Twitter.

I'd check in every once in awhile and see if anyone had left me a message, or was following me. Nope. Nothing. I couldn't even figure out how to find people. If a friend joined and started following me, I could reciprocate. But I couldn't initiate. Me=technologically stupid.

And then I noticed that one person I followed would put this weird little thing at the end of their tweet: #amwriting. I thought, "Huh. That's kind of cool. I'm writing too." So I put it at the end of my tweet. The next thing I know, people are contacting me! Sending me messages and even following me!!!! I went from seven followers to twenty-five in five days, but who's counting?

What happened, I wondered??? I looked carefully at that tweet I'd made that attracted so much attention. The '#amwriting' was in blue font. I clicked it. With a gasp and a flash of light, I was transported to a world of beings who were writing. Writing and chatting and congratulating and encouraging.

For those of you who are Twitter savvy, you know I stumbled upon a hashtag. And that hashtag led me to a chat group. I joined a chat. By doing so, I made friends.

Totally awesome!

I had no idea how I did that. And then I noticed the hashtag #wordgoal. And the hashtag #litchat. And #wordathon.

Peoples! Twitter can be fun!!!

I'm feeling more Twitter confidant now. I'm exploring new avenues of expression. In honor of this, I'm going to search out that little bluebird icon and put it on my blog. I'm not sure how that works, but I'll figure it out.

Sequel Stats:
today's goal: 58,163
actual: 58,211
tomorrow's goal: 60,211

Looks like you've gotta be the leader on this one, Tamara. I've signed up with Twitter (ages ago) but that's it. Still don't quite grasp the whole concept of the thing. So far my naivety has me believing that it's just a black void of unending connections that are fun, but can they really do much good?

I get why people would truly follow big name authors, but why would they HONESTLY want to follow me??? Explain it to me woman. Are you really bonding with those who've hit the 60,00 word mark?

um...no bonding yet...that would probably require me to spend a lot more time on Twitter than I'm willing to do, LOL.

but hopefully...hopefully I can get these people as excited about my writing as I am, and then they will all want to buy my book! b/c really that's all I care about...

I'm glad you're catching on to Twitter, Tamara. I've made some neat friends there.

hey Mireyah! You are now!

Thanks, Marsha! I still can't believe you're in my aunt's branch. I forgot to tell my dad.

Hahaha. Yay! I'm on Twitter too. I really like it. I'm still getting used to it now. I should do the amwriting. I'll get on that. lol, since I'm writing at the moment :)

Oh wow! I don't know much about twitter myself. I don't really log on. Like you, I have a hard time getting into it. I gotta try that stuff like you. mmmm...sounds like something cool. Other than that, to me twitter was boring and useless. I got an account cause "everyone" had one. The Stephanie from Steph And the City had a twitter account so I followed her. But that's it. I have not updated it in a while.

I can see how it can be addicting! But I'm gonna figure out how to use it to my advantage. Ha ha!

Guilty here of not understanding Twitter. You sent me something to start following you a while back but I did nothing with it. Do I have to have an account to follow other accounts?

Yesterday when I had two boxes of tomatoes to can and two boxes of apples left to do, I read The Hunger Games instead. I could not put it down! Wow.

Kate, wasn't it awesome??? I'm reading again this weekend. This time to Mark. :)

As for Twitter, yeah, you have to have an account. But like I said...it's confusing! If you have a bunch of friends on there, it might be worth it. Otherwise, skip it for now. (I only got an account for networking and marketing.)

You post made me laugh. When I joined Twitter I posted on tweet that said something like "Enjoying my morning coffee." Which meant, "Anybody there?" Nothing. I started noticing I had blogging friends who were on Twitter (they mentioned it on their blogs). So, I went back on, started following some of those blogging friends, and whoa! Everyone began welcoming me and chatting, and a whole new world opened up. Now, I'm addicted.
