My New Love

Kayaking.

For Father's Day we made a miniature investment and bought a pair of kayaks. I planned to buy them last year, but when my husband got orders to deploy, I decided to wait. So this was a long planned expenditure. There was something exciting about loading the kayaks (one at a time, because we haven't invested in a rack yet) onto the top of the car and taking them home.

Saturday we took them out for the first time. We had all the kiddos in life jackets, but something about climbing into a little boat on the water made my heart skip. For a second.

And then we started paddling, and I was gliding across the water, sunshine on my arms, water dripping on my legs, a breeze in my face.

It was absolutely one of the most wonderful, serene experiences I've ever had. I could've kept going for hours. I wanted to paddle across the lake and back again.

I'm sure it will take me some time to get used to paddling and controlling the boat, but I thought for a first time, we did awesome. And I can't wait to do it again. I can tell this is going to be a summer activity that competes for my time. I love living in Bella Vista. I love having seven lakes to choose from! (next: buying a car rack...)

Ever been out on a kayak? If not, go do it. Many lakes have a rental service where you can try it for a day.

I'm a big fan of kayaking. I rent at a nearby lake which is great for me since I live in a condo with no storage space. I'm going to try renting a Stand Up Paddle board at least once this summer.
Glad you had a good time.

oooooh, this sounds amazing! Where do you put the kids? in your lap? Is there room? What if they wiggle?

I've never been kayaking. Now I really want to!

I love kayaking. I go out on the ocean near my parents' beach house every year for a few hours. It's amazing how fast you can go, and how far you can get in such a short space of time.

My mother has been promising my sons one of their own to play with on the estuary once they've learned to swim better. There's an incentive to pay attention at swimming lessons!

We have been wanting kayaks forever, but bought a canoe instead because we thought we could take the kids out easier in a canoe. Now, with the tippiness of the canoe, I have my doubts. Is it easy to fit all the kids in your kayaks?

@Carrie, yay for kayaks! we live in a condo too, so we're rigging up a system to secure them to our balcony! We'll see if it works!

@Elisa, you'll see when you're out here! Between the two kayaks, we get all three kids in. But we also bought an inflatable boat so we can all get out on the lake. We'll pull you guys along. :)

@PurpleMist, definitely go. I love it.

@Kate, great incentive! Eventually we'll have to buy more for all the kids!

@Emily, kayaks are supposed to be more stable than a canoe, but there's not as much room for your cooler, etc. between the two we have no problems getting all three kids in!
