Wrong Place at the Wrong Time

Or rather, a series of unfortunate events.

I think we've already established that I have bad luck with cars. Particularly my tires. So Wednesday I ran over a pair of scissors. Not just a little bit, either: they went all the way inside my tire.

I didn't make it to my mechanic before I was on the rim. Luckily, I stopped next to a Ford Dealership, and they kindly took my tire off, sliced it open and withdrew the scissors, and tried to put my spare on.

Tried to.

Because apparently, Honda Pilots require a special key to get to the spare. And when I bought my used car three years ago, I wasn't given this key. I didn't know I needed one, so at the time I didn't notice.

So no spare. The guys at the dealership were super nice and put on a used tire that was a size too small and sent me on my way.

Fast forward to today, when I'm trying to get my car affairs in order. I stopped at the Honda Dealership and ordered the parts I needed. Then I went to my mechanic, prepared to bite the bullet and order a new tire. But since I didn't want to buy four new tires, he recommended I buy a used tire and save $100.

Well, I'm all for that! So I went to another place, bought a used tire, and was just about to leave when I noticed they forgot to put my hubcap back on. I asked them to put it on and they said, "Sure, just back into garage #1."

I did, and on the way, I backed into a three-foot metal sign they had in the driveway. Something I couldn't see from my elevated position in my SUV, but something strong enough to chip off six inches of paint on my car.

Great. There went my savings on the used tire.

I just can't win.

Every time I go to buy tires, it starts off being about 75 dollars, but ends up being about 600. I don't know how it happens. It's a game of dominoes.
It Just Got Interesting

Oh my goodness. I've got lots of tire/car tales, but not one quite like this one. Not a win situation for you this time. But, I'm waving a flag for a WIN in the near future!!

Awe...that really sucks! My dealer has been harassing me for a year to bring my used Ford Fusion in for servicing. I finally had to call him and say that unless I had a specific reason to have it serviced, he could forget about it. I'm waiting for karma to get me; I should have a specific reason by the end of next week if history is any indicator.

You really do have car issues! I was just thinking about your tire blowing out after we'd driven 10 hours to CA and we got that spare on only to find it was flat and had to wait for an hour or two for the tow truck driver to give us air and got stuck in rush hour traffic taking us even more time to get home. And then I remember that mechanic totaling your car. Then when you got your dad's brand new truck, how someone put a huge dent in it when it was parked! Are there other stories I'm missing?

Every once in a while I whine because I don't have a car and then I read about things like this that remind me of why I decided to not own a car anymore. A run-on sentence that says: Now I remember!
Hope things get better for you. You could always be like some of us who don't drive anymore. But I don't recommend it.

Oo, I feel so blessed to have a handy man of a husband who can fix just about anything. I'm so glad that the guys there took care of you and didn't take advantage!

@Emily--no kidding! I always forget about all my mishaps! oh there've been plenty since then... usually involving my tires!

@Kelly--yeah. I only get service when I need something. which happens to be fairly often.

@Elizabeth--that's always good!

ah! I've backed into something before. It's so embarassing! so sorry. Did you get everything fixed, at least?

I've got a Honda Pilot, too and I had no idea you needed a special key to get at the spare! We haven't needed it, up to this point, but now I'm worried/curious.

@Kasey--no kidding! after all we talked about!

@Meg--not yet! gotta find someone who does cheap paint fixes.

@Vicki--you definitely want to check! it's probably w/ your jack.
